Mental Health First Aid Training

The MHFA course is a way to practise the skills needed to notice when someone is struggling with their mental health, to gain the confidence to start a conversation with them and to know how to signpost them to the right support.

The key skills you will develop as a part of the training: 

• Identifying when someone may be struggling with their mental health 
• Starting difficult conversations 
• Active listening and sensitive language
• Improved mental health literacy
• Practising self-care 
• Encouraging people to identify and access sources of professional help and support 

As you all know mental health problems are common and we are likely to come into contact with them in one way or another - so feeling confident enough to deal with them when they arise is important. Doing this course will equip you with an accredited qualification that lasts 3 years, which you can put on CVs and applications. The MHFA course usually costs over £300, however for Headucate members we will be subsidising the cost to be £45 per person!

Logistics: 

• The course will be delivered online, by a qualified mental health first aid trainer
• You will receive physical copies of all the resources including: a workbook and information booklet 
• The course will span over 2 days (9am-5pm on each day)
• Learning takes place through a mix of instructor led training, group discussions, individual and group activities 
• If you have completed the course before and are interested in a refresher, please still state your interest as this is also available
• The current plan is for the training to take place on the 13th and 14th of December 
• The cost of the course is £45
