“We haven’t come across a new UK jazz act for quite a while (…) with as much potential as London based six piece Tanhai Collective. Open and loose, inspired by jazz funk and the 1970s they exert a lot of instrumental appeal.” Stephen Graham – Founding editor at Jazzwize – (Marlbank)
“[‘Ode Two’ is] Another step for their rapidly developing sound (…) a dubbed out soundscape, with echoey horn choruses complimented by occasional Mansur Brown-esque guitar licks. ” Mixmag (The best tracks of 2024)
“I’m struggling to think of any other burgeoning act right now that’s pushing forward the UK Jazz scene as much as Tanhai Collective” Tina Edwards – Radio DJ
6 piece instrumental outfit Tanhai Collective draw from Classic Soul Jazz and the jazzier end of post rock. Their groove heavy and melodic music utilises 70’s production and recording techniques for groovy, explosive and occasionally dubbed out tracks.
After winning the the Emerging Artist Competition judged by Norman Jaye MBE resulting in them performing at Cross the Tracks, they released their debut EP ‘The Tanifesto’; laying the groundwork for a solid modern jazz sound. Following this they headlined London’s Jazz Cafe, held a year long residency at ‘Parliamentary Jazz Venue of the Year’ runner up 91 Living Room, and supported Herbie Hancock’s headhunters at Ronnie Scotts for back to back nights. In 2024 they released their critically well received ‘In Lane’ – touching left field notes, while drawing from the Jazzier end of Post Rock.
Their newest release set for August 2025 goes back to their roots for melody forward, groove laden and classic sounding Soul Jazz.
This is a standing event.
