After gaining support from BBC radio and international artists such as Swim Deep and Bill Ryder-Jones, Reem Mitten is quickly becoming an unmissable act to catch.
Inheriting a vibrant musical heritage from the women in her family (Mitten’s grandmother was a famous singer in Morocco in the ‘60s; her mother, Douaa Hassani, enjoyed brief success in Egypt in the ‘80s), Mitten looked to icons like Ella Fitzgerald for further inspiration as she became obsessed with her family’s second-hand piano during an otherwise introverted childhood.
Favouring solitary musical practice and the films of Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe to the playground antics of her classmates, she would gently nurture the courage to begin performing at open mic nights as a teen — with her spellbinding aura soon drawing the kind of hushed plaudits that would encourage further development of her sound as an adult.
