Art History Society: Leicester Trip to See Painting Freedom!

Wednesday 10 November 2021, 9:45am - 7pm

Leicester Museum and Art Gallery

Join us on a trip to Leicester to visit the exhibition Painting Freedom: Indian Modernism and its Three Rebels

Join the Art History Society and Dr Dan Rycroft on a day trip to Leicester to see Painting Freedom!

What's the exhibition about:

  • The exhibition is titled Painting Freedom: Indian Modernism and its Three Rebels

  • It documents the emergence of Indian modern art between 1870 and 1950, and is the largest exhibition ever held in the UK of artworks from this defining period of modern Indian art.

  • More details about the exhibition can be found here.

The details:

  • If you're able to attend, make sure to buy your free ticket from this page here so we can make a note of who's coming!

  • The trip is taking place on Wednesday 10th November.

  • We'll be catching the 9.55am train to Leicester from Norwich Station, and we'll be meeting at the station at 9.45am to make sure everything goes smoothly.

  • Make sure to buy your train ticket in advance! The committee have opted for an open return because it was the cheapest/most flexible option, but feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

  • Upon arrival to Leicester at 12.49pm, we'll be heading straight to the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, which is only a 5 minute (0.2 mile) walk to explore the exhibition Painting Freedom, and the museum's permanent collection.

  • After the museum, we'll be heading to a local restaurant Herb for a meal as a society to round off the day, before heading back to Leicester Station to catch an evening train to Norwich (likely the 5.56pm or 6.18pm service).

  • The menu for Herb can be found here if anyone wants to take a look in advance!

Pre-trip meeting:

  • We have also organised an informal meeting with Dan on Wednesday 3rd November at 3pm, giving anyone interested in the the opportunity to discuss the themes of the exhibition in a WARS-style seminar!

  • This is also a good opportunity for us to finalise any details as a group, in person.

This is a really unique opportunity, and we're so excited to be collaborating with Dan on this trip. We hope you can make it!
