Deaf Awareness Workshop

Monday 17 February 2020, 3pm - 4pm

The Enterprise Centre 0.01

It covers why Deaf Awareness in everyday life is so important.

It explores some of the common myths surrounding Deafness and looks at the strategies that we can all use when we meet an individual with some form of hearing impairment. It also includes information on how to work with a British Sign Language interpreter. As part of the session students will have the opportunity to experience ‘deafness’ themselves in the form of a practical session so that they have a concept of the issues and barriers to communication that is large part of everyday life for those who live with a hearing impairment. During the session students will be given personal copies of handouts relating to Deafness and information on continuing to learn more about Deaf Awareness and British Sign Language through the courses available to UEA students.

This is a Do Something Different activity. Do Something Different is an extracurricular programme to enhance your time at university. From our week long festival in February to daily activities ranging from arts to sports, there is a do something different activity happening everyday!
