David Rudolf, the lawyer in the center of one of the most controversial and long-running murder cases in recent memory, subject of the Netflix cult series hit “The Staircase”, will be heading to university campuses up and down the country for an exclusive live Q&A event.

The popular Netflix series dives into the twisting and bizarre case of Michael Peterson, a novelist convicted in 2003 of murdering his wife Kathleen Peterson after she was found unconscious at the bottom of a staircase in their home. Spanning a nearly two-decade-long battle with the American justice system starting in 2001 from a frantic 911 call, the case weaves through theories of murder inspiration from a family friend’s staircase accident to even a fatal owl attack.

Jean-Xavier de Lestrade’s extraordinary documentary series “The Staircase” follows the build-up to the trial, how it unfolds in the courtroom and its aftermath has catapulted the already infamous case into a true-crime documentary hit.

The conversation will involve David Rudolph discussing his client Michael Peterson, the case and it’s broader comments on the American justice system. This is your opportunity to see clips from the case that were never aired and ask questions to one of the most prominent figures in the modern American legal system.

From founding his law firm in 1982, David Rudolph has passionately defended the rights of people, never wavering from that mission across a plethora of cases in an over three-decade career. Now somewhat of a local celebrity, David continues to practice law in North Carolina specialising in criminal defence, civil litigation, post-conviction challenges and civil rights matters.
