Jake Vickers, Ed Dowling and Sam Davies met at sixth form college in Northwich, Cheshire and The Zangwills line-up was completed by drummer Adam Spence from Chester in May 2017.. They released their debut single New Heights in December that year and have released music steadily since including 2 EP’s It’s Really Up to You and In Amongst the Glitter.

Each of them bring very different influences to the band and this, along with Jake’s unique voice, is reflected in their distinctive sound which is instantly recognisable as The Zangwills. Tricky to pin down for comparison, the band cite David Bowie, Arctic Monkeys, The Cure, Patti Smith, Nile Rogers & The Strokes among their influences.

They have a reputation for their exceptionally strong live sets, now joined by Jess Lees on backing vocals adding an extra dimension. With their shows usually selling out in advance (including Manchester Academy, The Grace, London, HPBC, Leeds), they’ve played headline dates as far apart as Edinburgh and Portsmouth and supported artists as diverse as Yungblud and The Charlatans.

Festival appearances have included Dot 2 Dot, Focus Wales, Sound City, a Saturday mainstage appearance at Wychwood Festival 2019 and by popular demand, an invitation to return to their Saturday mainstage in 2022. They also secured headline festival slots at Rivfest and Music in the Park.

Their last video was produced by Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and BAFTA-winning young Director, Lowri Roberts. Both had been in the crowd at their (sold out) Manchester Academy show and, realising that the song Judas on the Dancefloor was about the issues surrounding harassment on nights out, they set about creating a video for it. The film had the additional honour of winning the overall award for Best International Music Video at Focus Wales Film Festival in May 2022.
