Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the GIGGS event has now been cancelled. If you purchased tickets please return them as soon as possible to the UEA Box Office for a face value refund. The address to send them to (with covering letter) is:

Jamie T - NEW DATE ANNOUNCED

Due to illness, as I’m sure you are aware, the Jamie T tour was postponed. We are now pleased to announce the rescheduled date for the postponed Norwich gig is Sunday 31st Jan 2010.

For those who bought tickets for the old date - original tickets are still valid for this event, so if you can make this new date, then you need do nothing except turn up - same venue, just a different date! If however you can’t now make it please return your tickets as soon as possible (by no later than Jan 1st 2010) to the UEA Box Office.

CALLING ALL MUSIC ARTISTS (bands, singer-songwriters, acoustic soloists and electronic producers)

A new exciting project has hit the Norwich music scene, to fuse local talent from all aspects of music, from singer-songwriters and bands to electronic producers and DJs.

The B-Side Project will provide a platform from which producers of electronic music across all genres can showcase their skills, whilst involving the more “live” music scene, and at the same time portraying their work to a wider audience.

Local songwriters and bands are invited to send in one original track which will be given to a local producer to remix in their own style. Any aspiring producers should also get in touch with their contact details. The deadline is Wednesday 30th September 2009.

To get involved, email info@ne-xcuse.co.uk whether you are a band, acoustic artist, singer-songwriter or electronic producer. The tracks can be sent digitally to the email address above or a hard CD copy to B-Side, c/o The Red Bar, 18 Bedford Street, Norwich.

The B-Side Project is also now taking place in Cambridge, to be followed by Brighton, Bristol, Leeds and Sheffield.

Norwich Arts Centre Tickets

As of 1st July, and at the request of Norwich Arts Centre, we will we no longer be posting out physical tickets for any of their events.

All you will need to do is go along on the evening of the event with your order number (which is given in your confirmation email) and some form of ID.

Easter shutdown

HALESWORTH GIGINTHEPARK COMING SOON

Jubilant organisers of Halesworth’s Gig in the Park believe they have pulled off one of the strongest range of headline acts in the festival’s 12 year history this year. To be held August 7th-9th in Halesworth Town Park amongst artists so far confirmed are Glenn Tilbrook and The Fluffers, Glenn needs little introduction as one half of the songwriting duo of Squeeze who had hits with Cool for Cats and Up the Junction that still feature strongly on most commercial radio stations playlists to this day. With his band The Fluffers he has just released a new album Pandemoneum Ensues with a single Still lifted from it. Bringing a right old Cockney knees up to the festival will be Chas and Dave who are making an increasingly rare live appearance at this years festival. From the success of their hit single Rabbitt in the 80’s they have a massive fanbase and still attract new fans including members of bands like the Libertines who are massive fans. New act Gypsy Fire have also just been confirmed. Combining the passion of European Gypsy music with a modern edge they signed a major record deal in the summer of 2008 and are tipped to be the next big thing. Remember where you saw them first! Inspiral Carpets singer Tom Hingley also appears on the bill. One of the leading bands of the Manchester scene Tom has been in the business for 25 years and will be playing an acoustic solo show to the Halesworth crowds. Sunday headliners Kingsize Five bring the party to the festival to round things off with their eccleptic mix of swing, jazz, 50’s rock and blues and punk. The band have been championed by radio 2 DJ Steve Lamacq who describes them as a bunch of musical rouges. Friday is headlined by the irrepressible Frontbum. The Five Piece Rock Powerhouse from the US recently announced that they are playing a one-off gig in the UK en route to their sell out World Tour which kicks off in Tokyo on August 11th, 2009. Proud to feature as one of Gig In The Park’s Headlining acts, the band released the following statement:
“It has always been an honour to play Halesworth, England. We’re always made to feel so at home. We absolutely adore our good fans and so when our management confused Istanbul Kebab House with Istanbul International Airport as a stop-over destination the writing was on the wall.” If that wasn’t enough organisers have just confirmed that Blues band Nine Below Zero will appear at the festival. Formed in 1977 they have to be one of the country’s best known R & B acts. Also confirmed again are firm festival favourites Audioporn who’s concept songs and visiual presentation led to the Times saying they were the best band they had ever seen.
Advance tickets are being held at 2008 prices to help beat the credit crunch and will be on sale from 29th June and as in previous years the gig is run as a community event by a small band of volunteers and any profits will be donated to local good causes and be used to fund Christmas lights in Halesworth this year.

The Waterfront club night RAWKUS relaunches with very special guest DJs over the next coming months. On February 13th members of BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE will be doing a DJ Set. On March 13th special guest DJ's Ryan and Darren from FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND will be shaking the floor up! If you have ever fancied reviewing a gig and want to get to see a gig for FREE, then we may have an offer for you!!! We are looking for creatively minded people to write Reviews about some of the gigs that we are promoting at the UEA and WF. All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning is to write a review of a gig that you have seen at either of our Venues (UEA/WF) in the last few weeks and send it to us (max 500 words). The work you send in must not contain and inappropriate content/language and must be entirely your own work – no copying and pasting from other sites (we will be checking!!). Please include your NAME, AGE and TELEPHONE NUMBER when responding.

Once we’ve got a few we will sift through the entries and if we think that yours is one of the top ones then we’ll get in touch and offer you the opportunity to do it for us at another gig – this time for FREE!! The down side is that should we deem your review good enough to win then we will be selecting the next gig you go to (though we will try and house you in your specific “genre” if we can!) so you will need to demonstrate a certain degree of flexibility and open-mindedness in the choice of gigs that you would be willing to go and see/write about. Even if you don’t win, we’ll publish the best one for each gig on the website so that you can at least brag to everyone you know!!!

To enter this you will need to be at least 14 years old and have Parental Consent if you are under 18. We need to point out that we will also be reserving the right to edit the reviews should they contain inappropriate content/language. PLEASE NOTE - no correspondence/debate will be entered into over entries, we reserve the right to withdraw the offer at any stage and the judges decision is FINAL!

We've had several comments (which we're working on publishing but we've got a glitch at the moment re this!) but i thought we'd take a second to respond to some of them. We appreciate that a number of you liked the old site and we were sorry to see it go, BUT we had been putting "sticky tape" over it for a while now and eventually it just got too old and broken to carry on fixing - we didnt (as some of you suggested) change for the sake of change. All the features that were there before are pretty much still there (eg the Front Page Featured will be the latest releases, the Events page is the same as the Diary at a Glance (with added functions)) etc. We know its a shock to the system and it will take some getting used to, but we hope you bear with us and eventually come to love the new site!!
